| 520 | _aA collective art project on the economy of Mediterranean migration, this book is a discursive, visual presentation of the growing complexity of North African mobility in relation to the European Union. In response to the human conditions under which trans-Saharan migration takes place and the dramatizing media images and calls for border reinforcements, "The Maghreb Connection" presents new videos, photos, and research essays. In the course of eighteen months, eight art projects were developed in dialogue with each other. This is a collaboration between Swiss artists Ursula Biemann, Charles Heller, Raphael Cuomo/Maria Iorio, Cairo artists Hala Elkoussy, Doa Aly and Heba Farid, Tangier artists Yto Barrada and Helena Moleno, Malaga media/design activists Observatorio Tecnologico and Milanese photographer Armin Linke. The artists explore the region's matrix, increasingly marked by the progress of cultural, economic and spatial transitions. | ||
