520 _aThe tin soldier industry peaked between the two World Wars, while the Middle East was undergoing a process of re-mapping. Middle East’s contemporary armies have yet to be rendered in toy soldier sets. Tin Soldiers is a depiction of nine armies that were implicated in, or subject to, acts of war in today’s Middle East. Tin Soldiers appeared as an installation of metal figures and as a publication and exhibition project. The editions explore the extended presence of militarization, and the set up of formal and informal fighters, published in 2012. The Tin Soldiers publication project was printed with support from and shown at the 9th Gwangju Biennial, 2012. Selected works from the publication project was shown at The Ungovernables, New Museum Triennial, 2012. An installation of 12,261 customized toy soldiers was produced in the context of Home Works 5’, Beirut 2010, and 12th Istanbul Biennial, 2011.
