منذ عصر الكشوف الجغرافية الكبرى (أواخر القرن الخامس عشر للميلاد)، وعلى امتداد فترة الاحتلال البرتغالي للخليج العربي (1507- 1650م)، كتب عدد من الرحالين والمؤرخين البرتغاليين عن المنطقة وأحداثها، وتركوا وثائق ونصوصا في غاية الأهمية، ويتناول هذا الكتاب على مجموعة نادرة وبالغة الأهمية تتألف من 30 نصا وبحثا برتغاليا، ترجع إلى أواخر القرن الخامس عشر وحتى النصف الأول من القرن السابع عشر للميلاد.
