Summary: Rubáiyát of Khayyám by Omar Khayyám The book Rubáiyát of Khayyám by Omar Khayyám, published by Al-Karma Publishing in 2021, is a collection of his rubáiyát—short poems each made up of four lines—spread over 168 pages. These poems dwell on profound human and existential themes: time, mortality, fate, wisdom, estrangement, and the search for meaning. Khayyám uses concise and powerful poetic imagery, expanding the bounds of language into reflections on life, human dilemmas, and internal contradictions. His rubáiyát are known for their juxtaposition—happiness with sorrow, joy with grief, and sometimes irony with silent wisdom—each poem offering a window into a moment of consciousness or reflection, inviting the reader to confront themselves, question their existence, and ponder the present moment. Omar Khayyam was born in 1048 in Nishapur city, northeast Iran. He was a Persian polymath, philosopher, mathematician, astronomer, musician and poet of the medieval period. He compiled astronomical tables and contributed to calendar reform, and wrote the most important treatises on algebra before modern times. Khayyam is famous as “Hakim”. This term, in Persian, means a person who rules or commands in a wise manner, a physician, wise man, ruler, judge, governor, or administrator.
