<br/><br/> In 1985, an irreplaceable and priceless piece of Hawai'is history was anonymously donated to the Iolani Palace, the Queen's Quilt, which is displayed today in the very room where Queen Liliuokalani wa imprisoned in 1895 by the Republic of Hawaii for nearly eight months after her arrest and trial. It was here where she and her companions would begin to create one of the most unusual forms of historic documentation in Hawaiian history. Upon its plush velvets, satins, and silks, they passed the time in seclusion stitching, embroidering, and appliqueing the blocks with messages that spoke to the hope and dreams Liliuokalani had for her people. This quilt is a tangible link to the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii.
