<br/><br/> The book documents community responses to the interactive art project "Fiteiro Cultural" of De Barros, inspired by the unauthorized street vendor booths that characterize the public spaces of Sao Paulo. Conceived in 1997 for a two-month artistic residency in Paraíba, Fiteiro brings new ways of thinking about the relationships between art, exhibition, and public participation. Fabiana de Barros designed and installed a beach kiosk, known locally as a "fiteiro," creating a place for meeting, socializing, and artistic and cultural intervention. Fiteiro has already toured six countries: Greece, Switzerland, the USA, Cuba, Armenia, and Portugal, as well as São Paulo. This book features extensive photographic documentation of the project and texts by artists and curators who collaborated on it.
