يتناول بين صفحاته همَّين اثنَين، الأوّل قياس أوضاعنا كمحليين على شروط تقدّم الغرب، حيث يقول صاغيّة: «نعلم أنّ تهمة المركزية الأوروبية أو الغربيّة هي دائماً بالمرصاد لمثل هذه المقاربات، لهذا بدا من الضروري التعريف ببعض أوجه الصيرورة الغربية ذات المنال الصعب، إذ طغى تقليديّاً إمّا اختزال تاريخ الغرب وكلاسيكيّاته وإمّا إغفاله». أمّا الهمّ الثاني فتصفه مقدّمة الكتاب بأنه «اعتبار ما بات يُعرف بـ»حركة التحرّر الوطنيّ العربيّة» حدّاً فاصلاً وحاسماً في تقريريّته، ومن ثمّ الربط بين المآسي الراهنة في المشرق العربي وتلك الحركة في ظفرها وصعودها من خلال الإنقلاب العسكري، هي التي لا يزال يُرجم بقاموسها وبخرافاتها كلّ جهدٍ في طلب الحرية والخبز والكرامة الإنسانية».

Secondly, it highlights the significance of the 'Arab National Liberation Movement' in shaping the current situation in the Arab East. The text underscores the connection between contemporary tragedies and the movement's historical triumph, particularly through military coups, portraying these struggles as ongoing efforts for freedom, sustenance, and human dignity.
