"History- Political, Local/ Vernacular- Record of British conflict with Bani Bu Ali tribe, details of Ras al Khaimah conflict.

An important piece of Gulf maritime history, covering piracy in the Trucial Oman area in the late 18th and 19th centuries, and relations between the British marine forces and the local population.

With a series of maps and B&W illustrations.

In his preface to the book, the author describes this book 'as a story set in Napoleonic times, though outside the main stream of history. It deals with four naval and military expeditions and a tragic episode in the career of Captain T. Perronet Thompson. The Treaty which he drafted, interpreted and expounded, laid the foundation of Britain's strange relationship with the modern sheikhdoms of the Trucial Coast.

Hardback, first edition, published in 1966 by Macdonald & Co in London."
