Title translation: Arabic Cultural Heritage: An Anthology. Edited by Muhsin Jassim Al Mousavi (American University of Sharjah), Kamal Najeeb Abdel Malek (American University of Sharjah) -------This book has an academic, school-oriented purpose, as it has become clear to us repeatedly that students need a comprehensive book that encompasses, without being verbose, the Arab cultural heritage and makes it methodologically accessible, enabling students to become acquainted with it, study it, and engage with it. The Arab cultural heritage, as presented in this anthology, is vast and multifaceted, rich in discussions, and brimming with opinions and knowledge. Conflict within cultures is a necessity; otherwise, nations would decline into stagnation and death. However, the Arab cultural heritage was not static, and its contributors came from diverse origins. Arab and Islamic culture united them, resulting in a diverse and tolerant output, especially when their endeavors were vibrant and active. This anthology serves to affirm this plurality and diversity and refutes the accusations stemming from a singular reading that aligns with a view that prevailed for a long period within the central discourse of the colonial West The accusations against this heritage did not only come from traditional opponents or advocates of extremism wherever they were found, but also from narrow minds that are entrenched within narrow concepts of a single opinion that claims legitimacy and validity at the expense of other opinions.

لهذا الكتاب مسعى مدرسي أكاديمي، إذ تبين لنا مرات حاجة الطلبة إلى كتاب شامل، يحيط دون إفاضة، بالتراث الثقافي العربي، ويجعله ميسوراً منهجياً، بما يمكن الطلبة من التعرف عليه ودرسه والتحاور معه. إن التراث الثقافي العربي، كما تقدمه هذه المختارات واسع متعدد الجوانب، غني بالمناقشات، وحافل بالآراء والمعارف. ذلك أن الصراع داخل الثقافات ضرورة وإلا لانحدرت الأمم جموداً وموتاً. بينما التراث الثقافي العربي لم يكن جامداً، والمشاركون فيه جاؤوا من أصول متعددة. إذ جمعتهم الثقافة العربية والإسلامية، فكان نتاجهم متنوّعاً، سَمِحاً، وخصوصاً كلما كانت محاولاتهم حية ونشيطة. هذه المختارات تأتي لتؤكد هذه التعددية وهذا التنوع وتدحض الاتهامات التي تنبع من قراءة أحادية تتطابق مع رأي ساد لمرحلة طويلة داخل الخطاب المركزي في الغرب الاستعماري. ولم تأت التهم المضادة لهذا التراث من الخصوم التقليديين أو دعاة التطرف أينما وجدوا فحسب، بل توالدت أيضاً عن الأذهان القاصرة التي تتمترس داخل مفهومات ضيقة لرأي واحد يدعي الأحقية والصلاح على حساب الآراء الأخرى.
