Engravings from artist John Webber's drawings and descriptions from A voyage to the Pacific Ocean, volumes I, II, and III, and the Atlas by Captain James Cook and Captain James King, published as the official edition of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, in London, 1784 : featuring stamps related to Captain James Cook and his voyages of discovery from the Ron V. Meads collection. This book presents the earliest illustrations and descriptions of Pacific peoples and cultures as they were observed and recorded on Captain James Cook's third and final voyage (1776-1780) with HMS Resolution and Discovery. The broad spectrum of subject matter includes landscapes and people from Pacific areas such as Hawai'i, Tahiti, Tonga, New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific Northwwest, and Russia. Also pictured are the activities of Pacific peoples, such as entertainment, sporting events and religious ceremonies. The stamps also display important artists, scientists, cartographers, and navigators plus their scientific instruments.
