Tracing Istanbul shares with the reader aerial images of Istanbul that Oğuz Meriç has captured between 1992-2009. These images reveal traces of Istanbul which allow one to comprehend the urban context in its historical, social, economical and even political aspects. In this respect, the book seeks to express the story behind the images: the story of increasing population, urban policies, authority figures, rising land values, architectural practices and more. The images are discussed in three separate interviews, including interpretations by Murat Güvenç, Deniz Aslan and Pelin Derviş, which are structured to form a dialogue. All in all, this book is an outcome of Garanti Gallery's vast exploration of Istanbul that was launched with the ''Becoming Istanbul'' project.
