Hassan Sharif (*1951 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates) is looked on as one of the most important contemporary artists in the Gulf region. Since the early seventies, he has been working on a multifaceted oeuvre encompassing very different media, including caricatures, performances, installations, scientific experiments, objects, drawings, and paintings, which, taken altogether, comprise a complex, formal system. His works are shown regularly in Venice-at the 2009 Biennale, for example-and at the Biennale in the UAE state of Sharjah. Many of his works are included in the permanent collections of the National Museum in Qatar and the Art Museum in Sharjah, as well as in private collections in all parts of the United Arab Emirates and numerous other countries. This monograph is the first to be solely dedicated to the artist's work.
