تجارة التمور في امارات الساحل العربي للخليج العربي (1914_1939)/ خولة عبدالله العليلي

يتناول الكتاب الأهمية الكبيرة التي احتلتها التمور لدى سكان منطقة الخليج العربي منذ القدم، سواءً في الاعتماد عليها كمصدر أساسي للغذاء أو كمصدر للإيرادات المالية عن طريق الاتجار بها استيراداً وتصديراً. وجاء في الكتاب أنه وعلى الرغم من الأهمية الكبيرة للتمور إلا أن الدراسات التي تناولتها من الجانب التجاري قليلة جداً، وأغلب تلك الدراسات تطرقت إليها في معرض حديثها عن تجارة السفن الشراعية أو النقل التجاري من دون أن تفصّل في جوانبها المالية، ولذلك عزمت الكاتبة خولة العليلي في هذا الكتاب على اختيار دراسة هذا الموضوع بصورة أوسع وأقرب إلى الشمولية، وهو أمر لم يخلُ من صعوبات من أبرزها شحّ الوثائق التجارية العربية التي تغطي سنوات البحث المتعلقة به، وعدم وضوح الأرقام والبيانات في السجلات التجارية البريطانية لبعض سنوات الدراسة، وفقدان البعض الآخر منها. يتناول الفصل الأول واردات التمور إلى موانئ إمارات الساحل العربي للخليج بين عامي (1914- 1939). بينما يركز الفصل الثاني على صادرات التمور من موانئ إمارات الساحل العربي للخليج خلال تلك الفترة، ويتناول الفصل الثالث أساليب التعامل التجاري بالتمور. في حين تطرقت مقدمة الكتاب إلى مساهمة الوطن العربي في زراعة النخيل عالمياً، وأسباب وأماكن انتشار زراعة النخيل في منطقة الخليج العربي، والآفات والأمراض والظروف المناخية التي أثرت في إنتاج التمور، وكذلك الأهمية الاقتصادية لتجارة التمور في الكويت والبحرين والساحل المتصالح وعلاقتها باللؤلؤ.

This book examines the great importance that dates have held for the inhabitants of the Arabian Gulf region since ancient times, both as a primary source of food and as a source of financial revenue through import and export trade. This was not without difficulties, most notably the scarcity of Arab commercial documents covering the relevant years of research, the lack of clarity in figures and data in British commercial records for some of the study years, and the loss of others. The first chapter examines date imports to the ports of the emirates on the Arabian coast of the Gulf between 1914 and 1939. The second chapter focuses on date exports from the ports of the emirates on the Arabian coast of the Gulf during this period, while the third chapter addresses methods of commercial dealings in dates. While the introduction to the book touched on the Arab world’s contribution to global palm cultivation, the reasons and locations for the spread of palm cultivation in the Arabian Gulf region, the pests, diseases and climatic conditions that affected date production, as well as the economic importance of the date trade in Kuwait, Bahrain and the Trucial Coast and its relationship to pearls.
