يُعنى الكتاب بدراسة موسّعة لفن العيالة الإماراتي، أحد الفنون الشعبية العريقة، حيث يستعرض جذوره، ملامحه، وتفاصيل مكوّناته من شعر وأداء وترنيم وإيقاع وأدوات موسيقية، بالإضافة إلى البيئات التي تُؤدّى فيه—الساحلية، والبدوية، والعيناويّة. يتطرّق إلى الفرق الشعبية، والأدوار التي يلعبها مختلف المشاركين (من الشاعر/الشيّال، القائد، العازفون، اليويلات، النعّاشات)، كما يعرض أنواع العيالة مثل عيالة أهل الساحل، والونة، وعيالة العين. كما يبيّن كيف أن هذا الفن يجمع بين الفخر، الاعتزاز بالتراث، الشعور الجماعي والهوية الوطنية، وكيف أن الأناشيد والأغاني فيه لا تقتصر على الغزل أو المدح فحسب، بل تتضمّن القيم الاجتماعية مثل التعاون، احترام الموروث، والكرم. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، يستخدم الكتاب وثائق وصورًا وشهادات تراثية تساعد على رسم صورة حية لأداء العيالة عبر الزمان والمكان.

The book Al-ʿAyālah: Folk Arts (2023) is a comprehensive study by the Research and Studies Department of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Center, with 226 pages. It explores the Emirati folk art known as Al-ʿAyālah, delving into its origins, key features, and the components that make up its performance: poetry, singing, rhythm, percussion, and the traditional musical instruments. The work details the social and geographical contexts in which ʿAyālah is performed (coastal, Bedouin, and Al Ain), and describes the roles of the various participants involved (the lead, poets/singers (shayyal/shiʿrāʾ), drummers, the “uyūlah,” etc.). The book also discusses different forms of the art—such as the coastal Al-ʿAyālah, Al-Wunah, and Al-ʿAyālah of Al Ain—emphasizing not just the aesthetics but the values it conveys: pride, heritage, community cohesion, hospitality, and respect. It is richly supplemented with historical documents, photographs, and testimonies, giving a vivid sense of how the art has been maintained over time.
