The project Common Ground has been many years in the making- initially conceived in 2001 as a series of new commissions for 8 young British artists on issues relating to Muslim identity in the UK, the project took on new life in 2003, working with curators in Indonesia and Malaysia to develop parallel bodies of work, and now with the involvement of artists from the Gulf States and Yemen, the project takes on new momentum. Common Grounds provides an opportunity not only for interaction between the UK, Malay, Indonesian, Gulf and Yemeni artists on crucial quetions concerning the role of art in hsaping responses to the question of Muslim identity, and also intercultural identity. Curators: Sean Williams, Jamal al Moosawi-Hassanovich and Yudhi Soerjoatmodjo. Editors: Jamal al Moosawi-Hassanovich and Ismail Rifai.
