The first monograph by young architect duo Shingo Masuda and Katsuhisa Otsubo, who founded their practice in Tokyo in 2007, features ten projects completed since 2014. Adaptation conveys their continuing endeavours to explore what is truly necessary by simultaneously expanding perspectives far beyond the subject in question and carefully observing details. In three chapters the book conveys how architecture mediates between place and its surroundings, starts to influence the overall environment, and becomes more powerful through adaptation. Exclusive photographs by Anna Nagai capture the distinct characters of the featured places, objects, and buildings.
