Exhibition catalog. As an exploration of diversity in creative, temporal and spatial coordinates, Refusing to Be Still brings together artists whose lives and careers includes multiple contexts and cities. The theme of the exhibition highlights the capacity of art to always mutate, change and transform. Artists constantly practice—even at moments of stillness, artists are seeking ideas. The work of art is a continuous mode of experimentation with media formats, techniques and materials. Artists are changing the ways we experience reality, filtering energies and concepts. They rethink the old and the new, what it means to be mobile and flexible, how we can imagine the different possibilities and potentials offered to us, and how we can grasp the full spectrum of creative expressions that are immediate, contemporary and topical. The exhibition unfolds in three different locations in the city of Jeddah. The main exhibition space is located at Gold Moor Mall, which also houses the headquarters of the Saudi Art Council. For the 2018 edition of 21,39 — Jeddah Arts, the exhibition expanded to the historical edifice of Rubat Al-Khunji in Al-Balad, the old city of Jeddah, and the currently disused industrial facility of PepsiCo in the area of Al Rawdah, an impressive space that has never been opened to the public.
