A large survey of Monika Sosnowska's sculptural work. Monika Sosnowska (Born 1972 in Ryki, Poland, lives and works in Warsaw) is one of the most significant sculptors of her generation. In 2007, she represented Poland at the 52nd Venice Biennale. This book reveals the artist's engagement with the language of architecture as an expression of individual as well as collective memory, and with architectural space as a defining dimension of sculptural experience. This dynamic relationship is visible in the works installed in the unique context of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, designed by Álvaro Siza, and documented in a series of specially commissioned photographs. Essays by Gabriela Świtek (Professor at the Art History Institute of Warsaw) and curator Suzanne Cotter examine influences of Eastern European modernism and the post-modern expansion of the terms of sculpture to situate Sosnowska's work within formal, conceptual and narrative concerns of our still new twentyfirst century.
