Hisham Djait completed his secondary education at the Sadiki College, and in 1962 he obtained a BA in History. He specialized in Islamic history and published many works in both the Arab world and Europe. In 1981, he obtained a PhD in Islamic history from the University of Paris. Until the end of his life, he remained an honorary professor at the University of Tunis, and a visiting professor at McGill University (Montreal), the University of California, Berkeley and the Institut de France."
