Visual artist Bakr Shaikhoun is one of the Saudi visual artists who started early through local participation in Jeddah, keeping pace with the first beginnings of the visual arts movement in the Kingdom in the late sixties of the last century. He is one of the names of the first batch that graduated from the Institute of Art Education in Riyadh in 1969, and then joined to study art in Italy, from which he returned in 1980. Shaikhoun kept pace with the artistic changes that the Arab arena witnessed, so he presented works within what was known as conceptualism in more than one international event such as the Sharjah Biennale and the Cairo Biennale and other such works, and it is preferable to describe them as works after the year 2000 AD.
