520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The Diwan of Imruʾ al-Qays collects the poetry of Imruʾ al-Qays, one of the most celebrated poets of the pre-Islamic (Jāhiliyyah) era. His work is rich in vivid imagery and strong figurative language, blending natural description, longing, and love. Imruʾ al-Qays is particularly known for his love poems (ghazal) and for expressing intense emotion, often torn between desire, the beauty of the environment (deserts, night, wilderness), and the realities of hardship and wandering. The poems evoke a sense of longing for one’s roots, mingled with an aesthetic sensibility that captures both external landscapes and inner states. The strength of the Diwan lies in its musicality, its rhythmic cadence, and how the poet paints scenes that are sensory and emotional, inviting the reader into the world he portrays. Imruʾ al-Qais Junduh bin Hujr al-Kindi was a pre-Islamic Arabian poet from Najd in the late fifth and early sixth centuries, and the last King of Kinda. He is sometimes considered the father of Arabic poetry.
