| Summary, etc. | Following performances at various venues across Europe, The Song of Roland: The Arabic Version (2017) has its Middle East debut at sharjah Art Foundation's March Meeting 2018: Active Forms. In this large-scale music and theatre performance, Wael Shawky continues his exploration and interrogation of historical narratives. Based on the eleventh-century French epic poem La Chanson de Roland, the work is brought to life by 20 fidjeri singers and musicians from the UAE and Bahrain, who perform in the traditional style of Arabian Gulf pearl divers. |
