This book is a study of the myths, beliefs, and primitive reflections that emerged in Egypt and Mesopotamia, from which the religions and philosophies of later civilizations arose. It is an attempt to understand the worldview of the ancient peoples of Egypt and Mesopotamia. They were among the most civilized peoples of their time, and they bequeathed to us a rich and diverse body of writings, most of which have been deciphered in the last hundred years. However, when confronted with their translations, the modern reader often feels unable to grasp their deeper meaning.
