Regina Jose Galindo

Regina Jose Galindo - Italy; Silvana Editoriale; 2011 - 398p; 24x17cm

This monograph is dedicated to the Guatemalan artist Regina Josè Galindo (1974). The volume, in a trilingual edition , presents readers with the artist's production – always oriented towards performances that have, as their subject, her own body – starting from her early works from the late nineties up to the most recent ones, from 2010. Immigration, will, nudity, empathy, biology, power, anger, sadism, desperation, constraint, and freedom are the words around which Regina José Galindo's reflections revolve. In the performances presented here—often irreverent and emotionally impactful—she lends her body to these concepts, using it as if it did not belong to her. The catalogue, divided by year, is preceded by a series of critical essays analyzing and retracing the artist's career, and is complemented by biographical notes. Texts by Ruxandra Balaci, Clare Carolin, Fernando Casto Flórez, Rosina Cazali, Gontzal Díez, Carlos Jiménez, Leonel Juracán, and Eugenio Viola.
